Worth the Drive
Restaurants worth changing your route for
Independent places, visited anonymously by a Ysocial scout who pays for every meal. No stars or rankings — a place either earns the annual designation or it doesn’t.

Founding season
The first designations are coming
The community is nominating Ontario’s independent food destinations now. When a place earns enough credible support, Ysocial sends a scout to see whether it’s truly worth changing your route for.
Nominated so far
Put forward by the community. A nomination earns consideration, not the mark.
See all nominationsHow a place earns the mark
- 1
Community nominated
Locals and travellers tell us what deserves a detour, and why.
- 2
Scout visited
A named scout visits without notice and pays for the meal like anyone else.
- 3
Ysocial designated
Only exceptional independent places receive the annual mark — and it can be lost.
Nobody can buy this. Restaurants can’t pay to be considered, listed or designated. Scouts visit anonymously and pay for their meals. Reaching a scout’s list earns an evaluation, not the mark — most visits end in a no, and a no is never published. The year on the badge is the point: a place has to earn it again.
